Course Description: The course includes the following contents— biomechanics of upper and lower extremities and spine. The current orthopaedic treatments for those joints and the design considerations for their related instrument and replacements are introduced. Finally, the applications of engineering research tools, such as finite element analysis and mathematical modeling, for those joints are also introduced.

                  

General Objectives of the Course: Understand the biomechanical foundations about human weight bearing joints and their clinical application.

 

After completing this course, the students would be able to:

1.      Understand the biomechanical applications in human weight bearing joints.

2.      Understand the biomechanical applications in joint replacements and spinal instruments

3.      Understand the applications of finite element analysis and mathematical modeling in orthopaedic research.
